C RF – Celebrating 45 Years of Excellence in Behavioral Health Services in San Diego County!

Hours : 40 hours per week;  Monday and Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, Wednesday, 11:30 pm to 8:00 pm.  Choice between a traditional 5 day/8-hour work week or 9/80 biweekly schedule.

Pay Rate : $19.50 to $20.80 per hour

Education :  High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree (or higher) in health information, Medical Billing, or similar field strongly preferred.

As a Medical Records Specialist, you will:

• Maintain, organize and safeguard electronic and paper medical records for CRF clients.
• Review records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legal, ethical and program standards.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with HIPAA and mental health-specific confidentiality laws.
• Process patient admissions, discharges, transfers and treatment documentation.
• Run reports in EHR to assist program in complying with County requirements, such as productivity and documentation standards.
• Support clinicians and case managers with timely access of medical histories, treatment plans and progress notes.
• Prepare a variety of material such as interoffice communications, correspondence, input data and statistics for tracking and reporting, and reports of a routine or special nature.
• Gather and prepare medical records for CRF QI Department as well as external agencies as requested, such as Social Security Administration and Legal Aid.
• File and retrieve documents such as consent forms, progress notes and discharge summaries. Assist in audits, quality reviews, and other quality evaluations.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

• One year of full-time experience maintaining medical records.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, mental health terminology, and mental health documentation standards.
• Strong understanding of HIPAA and confidentiality regulations, especially mental health privacy laws.
• Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• A valid California driver’s license in good standing, personal vehicle, and proof of insurance are required to fulfill the essential functions of this position.
• Proficiency with basic functionality of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word).
• Must be able to pass criminal/background clearance.

Our Children, Youth and Family (CYF) outpatient programs ( Crossroads Family Center , Douglas Young Youth and Family Services, Mobile Adolescent Services Team (MAST), and Nueva Vista Family Services) provide services throughout San Diego County. We provide a range of services including crisis intervention, individual, family, and group therapy, medication support, rehabilitation, case management and drug and alcohol services while incorporating the family systems and wrap-around approach.

We provide mental health services to children and youth with Medi-Cal as well as those who are uninsured and underinsured. Services are provided in English and several threshold languages, using medical care, education, and family resources as appropriate.
