  • Developing journal strategy and being responsible for its implementation in fields related to the wider sustainability portfolio
  • Assessing submitted research papers as well as mediating complex situations
  • Overseeing the peer review process for direct submissions and transferred contributions and having responsibility for transfer partnerships
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with other journals as transfer partners, and developing strategies for improving transfer success
  • Establishing relationships with researchers to drive authorship and readership of iScience
  • Working collaboratively with academic editorial board members and editors, having oversight over academic editors also in the social sciences
  • Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond

Requirements

  • Have a PhD in the physical sciences (chemistry, materials science, engineering, etc.) or the Earth and environmental sciences discipline is a must, with preference to those who have worked on areas related to sustainability.
  • Have a minimum of 4 years previous editorial experience, though applicants with a professional background such as running a research group or working in industry are also encouraged.
  • Have previous management experience is highly valued but not required. However, candidates will be required to show aptitude towards being people leaders.
  • Display broad scientific interests, a desire to learn, and the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues.
  • Exhibit great interpersonal skills. Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job.
  • Able to organize, prioritize, and focus, and the ability and talent to help team members to do the same.
